(DUGGER, IN) - Two people were killed and five were injured following a collision between a truck and a minivan in the town of Dugger, located in western Greene County.
The two killed in the wreck have been identified as 72-year-old Victor E. Newton of Linton and his daughter; 45-year-old Debra Doyle of Salt Lake City, Utah. Doyle was a passenger in Newton's vehicle.
The accident occurred at around 8:30PM Saturday evening when 22-year-old Tra Hibbard of Sullivan was traveling southbound in a 1985 GMC truck on County Road 1500W.
Newton was traveling eastbound in his 2006 Chevrolet Uplander mini van when Hibbard's truck collided with Newton's vehicle at the intersection of State Road 54.
Greene County Sheriff's Deputy Eric Shane Smith says Hibbard was ejected from his truck during the incident. He was then transferred to a hospital in Indianapolis by helicopter.
Officers also report that immediately following the wreck, other nearby drivers reportedly pulled one of the crash victims from the flaming wreckage.
There were three other people riding in Newton's minivan including a 15-year-old, a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old. All three were injured during the incident.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
