(UNDATED) - As the holidays approach, charitable organizations are hustling to keep up with the increased numbers of needy Hoosiers reaching out for assistance.
Many are requesting help for the first time and aren't sure how to go about it.
The Salvation Army of Indiana says requests for aid are up about 14% from last year.
Officials say donations of simple things like milk and paper products, plates, cups and bowls really help.
People are struggling with clothing their kids and paying utilities.
