House Gutted In Thanksgiving Day Fire

Last updated on Friday, November 27, 2009

(BLOOMFIELD, IN) - Bloomfield Fire officials responded to a reported house fire early Thanksgiving morning to a house on North Cold Springs Road in Greene County.

When fire crews arrived at the residence, smoke was seen coming from the doors and windows of the house with the homeowners sitting in their car in the driveway.

Richard-Taylor Fire Department was also called to the scene due to lack of nearby hydrants in the area.

After nearly three hours of fighting the flames, crews were able to extinguish the fire.

Officials say that the house, which suffered heavy smoke, heat and water damage, was completely gutted by the fire in the living room and kitchen.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, although it believed that the fire began in the living room.

43-year-old Kevin Deckard and 36-year-old Linny Deckard suffered burns and smoke inhalation while escaping from the home; they were transported by ambulance to Greene County General Hospital.
