(UNDATED) - The Indiana Chamber of Commerce says aging baby boomers could be good for business.
The chamber met Thursday to discuss how the age group is impacting the workforce today and what that means for Hoosier businesses when they retire.
Indiana Chamber Senior Vice President Mark Lawrance says 1.6 million workers in Indiana are between the age of 45 to 64 and will retire over the course of the next 20 years.
He suggests baby boomers can continue to have a positive impact on the local economy as "encore" employees.
Lawrance also predicts that the average retirement age will grow as a result of economic woes.
He believes businesses can minimize the void in the workforce by working with baby boomers to create flexible schedules to keep them on board.
