(UNDATED) - The American Red Cross has pledged $1 million from the International Response Fund to assist communities affected the earthquake in Haiti.
The organization has staff on the ground in Haiti and has made available all of the relief supplies from its warehouse in Panama, which would provide for basic needs for approximately 5,000 families.
These supplies include blankets, kitchen sets and water containers to meet the immediate needs of survivors.
The Red Cross is currently not accepting volunteers to travel to Haiti, nor is the greater Indianapolis Red Cross sending volunteers.
However, Hoosiers who want to help can send monetary donations to support earthquake relief efforts in Haiti through the American Red Cross International Response Fund.
People trying to locate U.S. Citizens living or traveling in Haiti should contact the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747.
