(UNDATED) - January 1st put new restrictions on commercial dog breeders.
Commercial dog breeders and brokers in Indiana are now required to register with the state.
It's a new law affecting commercial brokers, those who sell 500 dogs or puppies each year.
Breeders must register if they have more than 20 unspayed females dogs who are at least a year old.
The state is charging a flat $1,000 dollar fee for brokers.
Breeders will pay based on the number of females they have.
The law doesn't affect animal shelters, rescue operations, or hobby breeders.
