(UNDATED) - The American Red Cross has raised $1 million to assist communities affected the earthquake in Haiti.
Cherie Afanador, Executive Director of the Hoosier Hills Chapter of Red Cross states, "this is a tragedy of epic proportions, and the American people have responded quickly and generously."
In its first day of operation, the American Red Cross raised $1 million for the disaster relief efforts through its $10 text message donation initiative.

The organization has staff on the ground in Haiti and is giving away all of it's relief supplies from its warehouse in Panama, which can provide basic needs for 5,000 families.
