(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Former IU basketball player and current radio analyst Todd Leary faces several felony counts in a real estate title scheme.
Reports say Leary was arrested 15 minutes prior to the IU-Purdue game Thursday evening. He is charged with 17 felonies related to misappropriating real estate title funds.
According to court documents, authorities learned of the scheme through Leary's former IU teammate Brian Evans.
Leary once worked for former title insurance broker Joseph Garretson, who pleaded guilty this week in Allen County to charges including conversion or misappropriation of title escrow funds.
Court documents say Garretson's activities led to $2.7 million in losses.
The 39-year-old Leary is accused of conspiring with Garretson between July 2008 and February 2009 to commit several felonies.
Leary left Garretson's company to work for former Indianapolis Colts Ken Dilger's company legends title.
According to court documents, Leary asked Garretson for money to cover nearly $289 thousand dollars in misappropriated funds from Dilger's company.
