(COLUMBUS, IN) - The mother of a 2-month-old Columbus child was arrested Wednesday after the boy was sent to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
According to a press release from the Indiana State Police the boy suffered from temporary asphyxiation caused by the boy's mother, Nikkiah C. Weddle.
Sometime after midnight, Weddle layed down on the couch, her son lying on her chest with a bottle of formula, when she fell asleep.
Weddle did not wake up until 6:00AM that morning when a relative found the infant pinned between Weddle and a couch cushion.
The child was listed as having trouble breathing during a 9-1-1 call.
His mother has being charged with one count of neglect of a dependent, resulting in serious bodily injury, a Class B felony.
