(Cannelburg, IN) - A Cannelburg woman arrested for drugs and the beating death of her 2 1/2-year-old son, was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison.
23-year-old Vadney Blake was sentenced in Daviess County Superior Court to 10 years in prison in connection with her son Jalen's 2008 death.
Judge Dean Sobecki says the case is another reminder of what negative effects methamphetamine can have.
Although a pre-sentence investigation recomended Blake spend 20 years in prison, Judge Sobecki chose the state recommendation of 10 years.
Reports indicate that Child Protective Services officials knew that Jalen tested positive for meth in June of 2008, but did not remove him from Vadney's care.
The boy died July after Blake struck him several times in the head with a heavy candle.
