(COLUMBUS) - A Bartholomew County jail corrections officer was fired and a Columbus Police Department officer is on paid administrative leave due to alleged misconduct.
Bartholomew County Sheriff Mark Gorbett says Corrections Officer Jacob Hopkins was fired for allegedly falsifying a report and breaking department rules. Hopkins and Columbus Police Department Officer Matthew Stephenson are being investigated for their roles in a February 2 booking of an unidentified female in the Bartholomew County Jail.
Investigators are trying to determine exactly how narcotics made it into the booking area of the jail and why a report indicating the drugs were found in the female's coat was altered.
Cpd Sgt. Matt Myers says they have placed Officer Stephenson, a five year veteran of the department, on administrative leave pending the outcome of several internal investigations.
Sgt. Myers says any possible charges will be forwarded to the Bartholomew County prosecutor's office.
