(UNDATED) - Nearly 27,000 Hoosiers who did not file a tax return in 2006 have a check from the IRS waiting for them.
The three year window to claim a refund on a 2006 return ends on April 15th.
The IRS says there is no penalty for filing a late return to claim a refund, but Jodie Reynolds with the IRS says there is some fine print.
The IRS will hold your 2006 check if you haven't filed returns for 2007 or 2008.
A refund would also be applied to any amounts still owed to the IRS, unpaid child support or past due federal debts such as student loans.
The 2006 return can't be filed electronically, but the refund can directly deposited in a checking or savings account.
