The Lawrence County Cattlemen’s Association and the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service with the help of the Springville Feeder Auction, will jointly sponsor a Bull Breeding Soundness Evaluation (BSE) on Monday, April 12th.
This event is a service to producers and a valuable tool for efficient reproduction in the beef cattle herd.
The Breeding Soundness clinic will be held at Springville Feeder Auction in Springville, starting at 8:30am.
The Breeding Soundness Clinic is a bull reproductive evaluation exam. Producers have the opportunity to bring their bull(s), beef or dairy type, to the clinic to have the evaluated for fertility and physical condition prior to this years breeding season. Semen will be collected and checked for quality, mobility and quantity. Bulls will also be checked for structural and reproductive tract soundness.
Dr. Jerry Rusch of Spring Mill Vet Service will be on hand to conduct the evaluations and explain the findings to producers.The cost will be $30 per bull. Included in the cost is insurance on the bulls from the time they leave home until they return. Bulls need to weight at least 900 pounds and a minimum of 13 months of age. Pre-registration is essential and required. To reserve a time to bring in their bull(s), producers must pre-register by Friday, April 9th. The Breeding Soundness Clinic is open to all cattle producers in Lawrence and surrounding counties.
