(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Indiana University is holding a ceremonial groundbreaking Thursday on its new Cyber Infrastructure Building on the Bloomington campus.
Construction has already begun on the high efficiency, green facility, also called the CIB, which is scheduled for completion in late 2011.
IU's Vice President for Information Technology, Brad Wheeler, says the new structure is designed to consolidate all of the university's IT staff into one building.
He says IU has adopted "Leed Silver" energy efficiency standards for all of its new buildings and plans to push toward the gold standard as budgets allow.
"Leed" stands for leadership in energy and environmental design.
Wheeler calls the Leed standards the "good housekeeping seal of approval" set by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The Cyber Infrastructure Building joins the university's data center and innovation center in an evolving technology park.
