(BLOOMFIELD) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources now has pictures to back up claims of a mountain lion roaming a rural area in southern Indiana.
DNR Biologist Scott Johnson says a motion-sensitive camera caught the image of the big cat just east of Bloomfield in Greene County overnight last weekend.
It's not known if the mountain lion is wild or is formerly a captive cat.
Area residents have been reporting sightings of the cougar.
The sighting is the first confirmed since the DNR set up a new policy designed to evaluate reported sightings of such animals.
The chance of encountering a mountain lion today in Indiana is still very rare.
