(MITCHELL, IN) - A new fire station is in works for the city of Mitchell.
According to Mitchell Mayor Dan Terrell, the city received a $500,000 grant from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
Terrell says that the city had applied for the grant once before in 2009 but was denied.
In addition to the $500,000 grant, $60,000 in matching funds will come from the city.
"That money," Mayor Terrell says "comes from the newly created Local Option Income Tax or LOIT.
The city receives $108,000 a year from LOIT and dedicates that money to safety departments within the town.
Terrell says that the new fire department headquarters will be located on Hamilton Boulevard in the west edge of the city's industrial park.
