(UNDATED) - Indiana’s ‘Click It Or Ticket’ seat belt enforcement begins today.
In Indiana, more than 250 law enforcement agencies will conduct special patrols to identify and ticket unrestrained motorists.
The effort will end on June 6th.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts saved 13,250 lives nationwide in 2008 alone.
There were 525 motorists killed in passenger vehicles on Indiana roadways in 2008, 267 of these were not wearing seatbelts.
Indiana had a seat belt usage rate of 92.6% in 2009; the highest in history.
Drivers can expect to see extra patrols on the road during this 17 day period.
