(LINTON, IN) - A teacher with the Greene-Sullivan Education Cooperative in Greene County has been arrested for slapping a 9-year-old autistic student in the face.
According to police reports, Patti Terkosky, a special education teacher, has been fired from her job and is now facing a criminal charge of battery following the March 3rd offense.
The cooperative is connected with six schools in the area and employs teachers who are placed in the schools as needed to provide services for special needs students.
Terkosky, a 24-year veteran of the cooperative, was working in the WRV Worthington Elementary building at the time of the incident.
The criminal investigation began on March 8th after the child's mother called the Greene County Sheriff's Department.
A witness to the slapping says that the child and Terkosky were having a verbal disagreement over an eraser when the child spit a piece of the eraser out of her mouth.
A pre-trial conference is scheduled for 9:00AM on June 16th.
