Kirkman wasn't able to obtain any money from the store and instead fled the scene.
Using descriptions given from employees and witnesses, as well as the store's video surveillance, police were able to locate Kirkman in Orange County.
Kirkman was booked into the Lawrence County Jail for attempted armed robbery.
Police say that the safe capture of the man is due to "well-trained Wal-Mart Employees and the store's state-of-the-art surveillance system."
