(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - The Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against a boater involved in a fatal collision on Lake Monroe June 28th.
19-year-old Winston Wood of Bloomington has been charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a boat collision resulting in death and a single count of leaving the scene of a collision causing serious bodily injury.
Both offenses are felonies.
The investigation blames both drivers for "inattention."
Wood was operating a 23-foot speedboat pulling a wake boarder, when the craft smashed into an 18-foot fishing boat.
A 51-year-old Bedford woman and her 8-year-old grandson, passengers in the smaller boat, were killed.
The woman's husband was in control of the fishing boat.
