(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University Spokesman Larry MacIntyre confirmed late Tuesday afternoon that two bedbugs have been found in the university’s Wells Library.
While the discovery of two tiny bugs does not signal a threat to public health, it's dreaded news to IU because bedbug infestation has occurred elsewhere in Bloomington and has reached near epidemic proportions in several U.S. and Canadian cities.
IU has no reported cases of bedbugs found in residence halls or anywhere else on campus.
The tiny, bloodsucking pests can cause maddening itching and, potentially, infection, but are not major disease carriers.
