(UNDATED) - The Indiana Prevention Resource Center has released the results of its 20th Annual Survey of Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drug Use.
Researchers questioned over 169,000 teens in grades 6 through 12 from 523 public and private schools.
Director Dr. Ruth Gassman says the results are consistent with trends seen across the state and the nation.
Cigarette use among teens dropped 3.2% from last year while tobacco use in pipes showed a considerable increase going back to 2006.
The survey also showed an increase in marijuana use for the 3rd straight year.
Dr. Gassman says the decline in cigarette use shows education efforts for tobacco prevention is working, but more attention needs to be paid to marijuana.
She says youth are more inclined to use a drug if it is perceived to be safer or "no big deal."
