(BEDFORD, IN) - Despite scattered rain showers Wednesday evening, Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig would like to remind residence that the countywide burn ban remains in effect.
Fire officials say that the Lawrence County area would most likely need steady rain over a 12 hour period for the ban to be lifted.
Craig says that the department has received 14 illegal burns called in.
He states "the big thing is we want people to stop burning. We don't want to have to start writing tickets."
The ticket is a civil citation that is outlined by a county ordinance which carries a fine of up to $2,500.
In addition to Lawrence County, there are over 70 other county burn bans in the state of Indiana.
