(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - A Saturday night sobriety checkpoint, planned by Bloomington Indiana State Police troopers turned out to something more than officers had anticipated.
At around10:15PM a female victim told police that she had been walking home when two males approached her on the sidewalk and demanded her purse while displaying a silver handgun.
The men hit the woman on the side of her face and fled from the scene.
Tracking credit card purchases on the victims credit card, officers were able to arrest three suspects.

Further investigation reveals that the suspects had planned to wait underneath a dark train overpass just south of the 13th Street and Indiana Avenue in Bloomington and possibly steal from students walking nearby.
