(BEDFORD, IN) - Official estimates of the amount of damage done to a White River railroad bridge have been released.
According to Mitchell Mayor Dan Terrell, who has a long affiliation with CSX and is also a member of the White River Port Authority, $150,000 to $175,000 in estimated fire damage has been reported.
Terrell says that the fire could have been a lot worse and the area is lucky it did not get hot enough to melt the steel girders of the rail.
Fire officials continue to investigate the blaze.
Terrell says that the White River Port Authority, which had been working with the CSX to purchase the line that runs between Mitchell and Bedford, will most likely meet soon to discuss the future in pursuing the rail.
