(UNDATED) - Duke Energy has announced that it will merge with Progress Energy in a $26 billion transaction, creating the largest utility in the U.S.
Officials say the combined company will be called Duke Energy, with a customer base of over 7 million customers in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.
Angeline Protogere, spokesperson for Duke's Indiana operations, says the merger will have little direct impact on Indiana customers.
