(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - A 34-year-old Bloomington man plead guilty on Friday to raping an Indiana University doctoral student and then plotting with his mother to kill the woman so she could not testify against him.
An agreement between Jason Bridgewater and the Monroe County Prosecutor calls for a 40-year jail sentence.
After a jury in April could not agree whether Bridgewater was guilty of the sexual assault against a woman, Bridgewater and his mother, Linda Littrell, were charged with conspiracy to commit murder against the victim.
When Bridgewater appeared in court on Friday, he admitted to raping the woman at knifepoint and then arranging to have her killed.
55-year-old Littrell now can plead guilty to a reduced charge of assisting a criminal.
