(BEDFORD, IN) - A plea agreement which would have jailed the mother of a 7-month-old child who died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head has been rejected by court officials.
23-year-old Kaitlin Essick had agreed to a 10-year prison sentence in exchange for received a reduced charge.
Judge William Sleva stated he didn't think the deal that reduced the charge from neglect of a dependent resulting in death to battery was appropriate.
Casey Garrison, Essick's boyfriend at the time of the child's death, was sentenced by Sleva in June to eight years for his part in the child's death.
