(MITCHELL, IN) - The Mitchell School Board voted during a meeting Monday night to cancel their contract with Superintendent Dr. Alva Sibbitt.
The board cited a seven-page document that states that Sibbitt's actions during the initial traffic stop were "contrary to the values of Mitchell schools."
Following the decision, Sibbitt handed out a written statement which can be read below:
"Words cannot express my disappointment and sadness because I will not have the opportunity to serve as superintendent of the Mitchell Community School Corporation.
"When I was hired as superintendent, I was very excited and looked forward with great anticipation to getting started on my new job.
"I am confident that I would have provided the leadership needed to implement programs which have been proven to significantly increase attendance rates, graduation rates and ISTEP scores, as well as the success of athletic teams.
"In conclusion, I wish the members of the school board, administrators, teachers and students of the Mitchell Community School Corporation the very best and sincerely hope that they will be successful in their future endeavors."
