(UNDATED) - Memorial Day is today. The holiday stems from the practice of decorating Soldiers’ graves in the aftermath of the Civil War known as Decoration Day.
The practice became a federal holiday as Memorial Day in 1967.
Some Hoosiers say the day is mostly about remembering those who've fought in previous wars and those on the ground in places like Iraq and Afghanistan now.
One man who fought in Vietnam says it's important to him to honor today's veterans because of the support he didn't receive when he came home.
A memorial service will be held on the Bedford courthouse square from 11:00AM until 3:00PM featuring live music.
