(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - The Bloomington/Monroe County Metropolitan Planning Organization approved a 3-year transportation plan, however the plan did not include the state’s I-69 Extension Project.
Previous plans approved by the MPO included the highway extension project, but officials felt the community voiced too many unanswered questions.
Bloomington Planning Director Tom Micuda says concerned citizens brought up environmental questions, saying issues of air quality had not been sufficiently addressed.
Micuda says the fiscal arm of the project was not clear.
People want to know if the extension project was fully funded or if I-69 was taking funding from other projects.
Micuda says officials hope the state will come and publicly address the questions then add the I-69 project to the approved plan at a later date.
The planning organization is required to submit the local plan to the State Department of Education for review.
INDOT officials have indicated the highway project cannot completely move forward without local approval.
