(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Hundreds of people gathered at Indiana University to honor the life and legacy of Indiana’s richest man and renowned philanthropist Bill Cook.
Governor Mitch Daniels presented the Cook family with the Sachem Award. His son Carl accepted the award on behalf of the family.
The Sachem is the highest honor that the state of Indiana can bestow.
I.U. President Michael McRobbie served as the Master of Ceremonies at the event.
Bloomington native John Mellencamp, a personal friend of Cook, performed at the ceremony as well.
Cook passed away in April after a long battle with congestive heart failure.
Cook founded the Cook Group Global Network in 1963.
He and his family were involved in numerous charitable activities and sponsored the restoration of the West Baden Springs Hotel and French Lick Hotel in southwestern Indiana.
