(UNDATED) - An Indiana group is trying to convince state lawmakers to legalize marijuana.
Former Police Officer Chad Padgett works with a group called LEAP; "Law Enforcement Against Prohibition."
One of Padgett's colleagues Peter Crist says the so called "drug problem" is the result of "prohibition" policies that lead to crime, gang violence and problems along the Mexican border.
Crist argues that de-criminalizing marijuana would partially address major crime issues across America.
Crist says legalizing marijuana won't have much impact on young people.
He says it's already easier for teens to score pot through friends than get alcohol from retailers afraid of losing their licenses for selling to underage drinkers.
LEAP argues that the "prohibition" nature of marijuana makes it more attractive.
