(UNDATED) - The intense heat is causing all kinds of problems, but how can you protect your car from it?
Excessive heat can cause serious problems for cars.
John Hamilton, Shop Foreman with the Bill Estes Group, says no cars, not even newer ones, are maintenance-free.
He says we always need to do the basic checks by making sure all belts and hoses are in good shape and the coolant system is flushed and filled when required to keep cars from breaking down.
Hamilton says air conditioning systems should be serviced at least once a year.
He says if you think your car is overheating, pull over immediately and seek help.
Hamilton says if you keep your car running when it shouldn't be, you could be costing yourself thousands of dollars in repairs.
