Indiana National Guard To Help With Hurricane Relief Efforts

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Major General R. Martin Umbarger, The Adjutant General of Indiana, announced the activation and deployment of approximately 1,000 Indiana Army National Guard Soldiers in anticipation of Hurricane Irene relief efforts.

On the 28th of August, ground forces will convoy to a forward staging base at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. Aviation crews will marshal at an aviation support base in Rome, New York.

Ground forces include security forces from the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team stationed in Fort Wayne, New Albany and Indianapolis; logistical support forces from the 38th Sustainment Brigade stationed in Kokomo, and the 384 Military Police Company from Bloomington.

Aviation assets and crews are from the 38th Aviation Brigade stationed Shelbyville, Indiana.

The Indiana Army National Guard will act as part of Ground Task Force 3 providing defense support to civil authorities to States affected by Hurricane Irene to prevent the loss of life and human suffering.
