(UNDATED) - After nine days of sifting through trash at a Vigo County landfill, Bloomington police say they have found no evidence in the disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer.
IU police and the FBI helped Bloomington officers go through several hundred tons of trash from the Sycamore Ridge landfill each day looking for any clues that would help the case move forward. More than 4100 tons of isolated waste was marked as coming from the area of 11th Street and College Ave where Spierer was last seen on June 3rd.
Captain Joe Qualters says authorities decided to halt the operation once it was evident that they trash they were going through was getting farther away from the dates associated with Lauren's disappearance. Qualters says the investigation will continue and they are still taking tips from the public.
Lauren's parents and volunteers will canvas the Bloomington area with new posters asking for information Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
