(UNDATED) - The State of Indiana released grades for school districts for the first time Monday.
State Superintendent Tony Bennett's decision to use letter grades to communicate performance left many school districts confused.
The State's grades are based on test scores.
The North Lawrence School System was graded with a C, while Mitchell Community Schools were given a D mark.
Grades were also given to each school. In the NLCS Springville, Dollens, Lincoln and Stalker Elementary Schools were all given A's.
Fayetteville Elementary and Oolitic Middle School were given the systems lowest grade, a D.
Needmore Elementary School, Heltonville Elementary School, Parkview Primary School and Parkview Intermediate School, were all given a B.
Shawswick Elementary School, Shawswick Middle School, Bedford Middle School and Bedford North Lawrence High School were all given C's.
In the Mitchell Community School System Burris Elementary School, Hatfield Elementary School and Mitchell Junior High School were all given a D.
Mitchell High School received an F.
All schools in the Mitchell school system fail to meet the Adequate Yearly Progress in the federal No Child Left Behind program.
