(BEDFORD) - A new airplane hanger will be dedicated at the Virgil I. Grissom Municipal Airport, during the “Rendezvous on the Runway” event.
Airport Manager Ray Saxton says the hanger will be dedicated in honor of Indiana Senator Brent Steele.
"He has done a lot for the airport over the years," Saxton said. "He was fundamental in allowing us to get this project completed."
The hanger which is 50 feet by 180 feet, hold 8 planes. The project cost around $250,000 to complete, Saxton says.
"We had to tare down the old hanger, and built this one to replace it," Saxton said. "The new hanger is full. All 8 spaces have been rented out to plane owners."
Saxton say more than 300 planes fly into the airport monthly.
"Lots of people don't know Lawrence County even has an airport," he says. "Many land to re-fuel, some have family members in the area, other come for the tourism and many are commercial flights for Crane or General Motors. It's a pretty busy airport."
