(BEDFORD) - The Bedford North Lawrence Performing Arts Center will be one of the sites around the state to host regional competitions of the Indiana Academic Spell Bowl.
The junior division (grades six through eight) will compete Oct. 25, and the elementary division will compete Nov. 17.
Host coordinator Denise Buckingham said Bedford Middle School students participated in the Bedford Invitational Tuesday night.
Buckingham said perennial powerhouse Martinsville participated, but the local students did not back down although Martinsville had a perfect or near-perfect speller in each round.
The Bedford Elementary Invitational will be Tuesday.
