(UNDATED) - The United States Postal Service plans to study a list of over 250 mail processing centers for possible closure with seven centers located in Indiana.
Officials are looking at possibly consolidating the Bloomington, Kokomo, Lafayette and Muncie facilities into the Indianapolis center. The proposal also calls for the consolidation of South Bend's center into Ft. Wayne, Gary into an Illinois processing center and Terre Haute's into Evansville or Indianapolis. The study will be completed early next year.
Mary Dando with the United States Postal Service says the studies are a part of the agency's attempts to help solve the agency's financial crisis. Mail processing around the country has declined by 43 billion pieces of mail over the last 5 years.
