(UNDATED) - Crane Naval Weapons Center is expanding its outreach in Martin County.
One of the base’s most successful outreach programs is the STEM program with the University of Southern Indiana, located in Evansville.
STEM stands fore science, technology, engineering and math.
Local State Representative Mark Messmer of Jasper says the program is targeted for kindergarten through seniors at area schools.
The goal of the program is to keep area kids at home after they graduate from college. More than 2000 of the 5000 jobs at Crane are civilian engineers.
Crane officials also hope to double last year's 100 million dollars spent with local and area businesses for needed services at the base this year.
