(BLOOMINGTON) - A fallen soldier’s body returned home Sunday.
19-year-old Private First Class. Brett Wood was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, his body arrived at the Monroe County Airport around 9:30 a.m. Escorting him home was his 21-year-old brother Nikk Wood, who joined the Army with Brett.
A military honor guard paid tribute as the soldier's casket was carried from the airplane. There was a brief ceremony for the family inside the Cook Group hangar.
The procession, led by a hearse, traveled west on Ind. 48, north on Ind. 43 and west on Ind. 46 into Spencer. Residents lined the route as the soldier passed. Hundreds of people taking up every corner in Spencer saluted Private Wood.
