(BEDFORD) - A father and daughter appeared in Superior Court II Monday morning and pleaded not guilty to restraining and beating a Bedford woman.
46-year-old Marty D. Lane, of 11841 U.S. 50 West and his 20-year-old daughter Kayla Lane, 1871 Dixie Highway are charged with criminal confinement, a Class D felony. Marty is also charged with battery resulting in injury, a Class A misdemeanor.
The Lanes posted a $505 bond each and were released from the Lawrence County Jail.
The court granted both Kayla and Marty public defenders. Kayla will appear in court on November 19 for a pre-trial conference. Marty will appear on December , because he is facing alcohol-related charges. The court will hear both cases.
According to a court affidavit, the Lanes beat up and forced Tanya Shidler, Marty Lane's girlfriend, into a car.
Kayla drove, while Marty kept his arm around Shidler's throat.
Shidler told police she attempted to escape twice, but each time Kayla caught her and held her while Marty hit her.
Shidler finally escaped by running across a field, through a wooded area to a friend's house.
