(BEDFORD) - Bedford Fire Department firefighters extinguished a fire that destroyed a home at 701 V Street, early this morning. The blaze also damaged two adjacent homes.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at 12:15 a.m. to flames coming out of the roof and all sides of house.
Stephanie Mills, who rents the property from Rick Brown, escaped without injury
"The house was destroyed, with more than $42,000 in damage," said Bedford Fire Department Chief Jon Wagner. "This fire was fully-involved when we arrived."
Firefighters battled the blaze for about 20 minutes.
"It took a while to get a hold of this one," Wagner said. "With fire coming out the roof and all sides it was difficult, plus firefighters were protecting the adjacent properties as well. I am proud of the men they got the fire under control quickly and were able to save the adjacent homes."
The homes, north and south of 701 V Street, had superficial damage, Wagner said.
"There was damage to the siding and windows at those properties," Wagner said.
No firefighters were injured while battling the blaze, which kept crews on the scene until 3:35 a.m. BFD responded with a rescue truck, two fire engines and a ladder truck.
BFD investigator David Wright is at the scene this morning and continues to investigate where the fire started and what caused it, the chief added. More information should be available this afternoon.
