(SHOALS) - Locked-out union workers at National Gypsum in Shoals are now protesting the lockout standing vigil outside the plants gates.
The lockout is now into its fourth week.
National Gypsum locked out the union workers the morning of September 6th after the workers voted against the company's latest contract offer.
They were not notified of the lockout when they showed up for work the next day.
Workers at Shoals have been working without a contract since February 1st.
At the crux of the impasse are retirement benefits for the union workers.
National Gypsum is one of the largest gypsum wallboard producers in the United States.
The Shoals plant and mine have been in production since 1956. It employs about 100 workers of which 82 are union workers who are locked out.
