(BLOOMINGTON) - 18-year-old James Mitchell was arrested after police say he attempted to rob an Indiana University student early Tuesday.
When Mitchell was arrested police discovered he was wanted in connection to a different attempted robbery that happened a few hours prior.
A 20-year-old IU student told IU police he was walking in the 1200 block of East Third Street when Mitchell pointed a gun at him and said he wouldn't kill him, but needed $100 to find his brother. When the student said he didn't have the money, Mitchell ran through the alley.
Police found Mitchell near Highland and Atwater avenues holding a shirt wrapped around an object.
Police asked Mitchell to stop and show his hands and he refused. Police tackled Mitchell and found an air pistol.
Police determined Mitchell is also a suspect in a Bloomington Police Department attempted robbery case along the B-Line Trail.
Mitchell faces preliminary charges of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, impersonating a police officer, intimidation and resisting law enforcement.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call IU Police.
