(JASONVILLE) - 17-year-old Shakamak High School senior is listed in fair condition, according to IU Health Public Relations representative Abby Gras.
The teen was LifeLined to Methodist Hospital on Wednesday morning, after being hit by a car on her way to school shortly after 7 a.m.
Shakamak Jr.-Sr. High School guidance counselor Jenny Scott said the school has not received any recent updates on the girl. Scott says she spoke with the girls mother before the teen went into surgery. Scott took cards the senior English class made for the teen.
Today is "Hats On" day and for a minimum $1 donation, students can wear a hat during school hours. The donations will go to the injured teen's family.
Shakamak Jr./Sr. High School Principal Rolland Abraham visited the girl and her family Thursday night. Abraham says the school is small and they take care of their students. He also added the teen had a long road to recovery ahead of her.
Michelle Klausmeier, 41, of Sullivan, was traveling eastbound on S.R. 48 after working at Sony in Terre Haute Wednesday morning. The teen was crossing the street as Klausmeier rounded the corner near Hanna Field, and was unable to stop in time.
Jasonville Police Chief Rick Van Horn said the early morning hour caused poor visibility and rain had made the roads wet.
