(Bedford) - The White River Humane Society will celebrate the positive effects pets have on owners with a health fair Saturday at Healthy Balance, 311 5th Street.
Studies have shown that owning a pet can be good for your health, said Kimberly Mitcheff, WRHS board member. Pets can lower your blood pressure and walking and playing with them is great exercise and a good stress release.
Activities begin at 10 a.m. till 3 p.m., there will be a cookout and free blood pressure and glucose screening. Prizes will be given away by Healthy Balance, Owen Valley Health and WHCC Hoosier Country radio, which will broadcast live from the event.
Those attending are asked to bring a donation of dog or cat food. Supplies are low at the shelter, said Mitcheff. Donations of cleaning supplies and other pet items are always needed.
The event is a joint effort between WRHS, Owen Valley Health Campus in Spencer.
Pets looking for loving homes will also be at the event.
