(BLOOMFIELD) - A rural Worthington woman charged with stabbing another woman in the face made her initial court appearance in Greene Superior Court Thursday morning.
Courtney R. Coursey, 23, is charged with battery with a deadly weapon, a class C felony and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a class d felony.
Superior Court Judge Dena Martin appointed county public defender Alan Baughman to represent Coursey and set a pre-trial conference for 2:30 p.m. On Oct. 17. A jury trial was not immediately scheduled.
Coursey was arrested Monday night at the home of Brandy Holtsclaw, who lives in Worthington.
Coursey went to Holtsclaw's home and confronted her because she heard rumors that Holtsclaw had been talking about her, according to Worthington Deputy Marshal Don Richardson, who investigated the incident.
After a verbal argument, Coursey left but returned a short time later. Another verbal argument started and eventually turned physical. That is when Holtsclaw was cut in the face with a pocket knife.
Holtsclaw was initially treated at Greene County General Hospital in Linton and later transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to be treated by a cosmetic surgeon, according to court records.
