(MITCHELL) - A former Mitchell Police Chief Steven Blair, who was suspended almost two years ago, was officially back with the police department Friday.
But Blair was immediately placed on administrative leave, according to Mayor Dan Terrell.
Blair was fired by the city's Board of Public Works and Safety on Aug. 28, 2010. He was fired after being caught on tape having a conversation with Merit Board Vice President Terry Bock. Bock expressed wanting to become Mitchell mayor and hiring Blair's wife as an employee and other city government issues.
A judge later ruled it wasn't the board's job to fire Blair, it was the job of the merit board, and that decision was upheld by the court of appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court early this month.
